Why Get Certified?

The Certified ScrumMaster designation is one of the most demanded certifications by employers and recruiters and  is a globally recognized certification from Scrum Alliance. Whether you want to serve as a scrum master, are adopting scrum, or just need the skills to be more agile, the CSM course is the right place to start. You’ll gain a solid understanding of scrum and learn practical ways to apply it to your team and throughout your organization.

It's all Lecture, right?

No way!!!  Most of this class is discussion-based or exercise-based.  Very little of the class is real lecture.  We get bored of lecturing faster than you get bored of being lectured.  That's a lose-lose situation.  We spice things up with bad jokes, deep discussion, and exercises that allow you to make mistakes and learn from them.

What's Covered?

  • Dispelling Scrum Myths
  • Agile Manifesto (Values and Principles)
  • Empiricism
  • Scrum Values
  • The Roles, Rights, and their Responsibilities
  • How to pick out a Great ScrumMaster in a crowd
  • The Scrum Events, and their inputs/outputs
  • The Artifacts, who is responsibile for them
  • Maintaining Transparency of the Artifacts
  • Definitions or Ready and Done
  • Product Backlog Refinement
  • How to plan and Facilitate an effective Retrospective
  • Iterative and Incremental Development
  • What to expect out of a Sprint Review
  • Coaching the PO and Developers
  • Serving the Organization

Is there Prep Work?

Not really.  It would be great if everyone would come to class having read the Scrum Guide.

What are the attendance requirements?

Full attendance on camera is required and participants must attend the entire class to qualify for certification.

How can I be most successful in this virtual setting?

  • Have a pen & paper for taking notes.
  • Your computer MUST be a desktop or laptop with a good microphone and webcam. You will not be able to fully participate in class with a smartphone or tablet.
  • We will be using Zoom and Mural as our primary tools during the online workshop.
  • We will send you a Mural link a few days before class. If you are not familiar with Mural, do not worry!  We will provide you with a few short exercises get do in Mural before class starts.
  • Mural will work best with Google Chrome. If you don't have it, install Chrome from: www.google.com/chrome
  • Install the Zoom application; (using Zoom over a browser is just terrible).
  • If possible, multiple monitors is helpful (but not required)
  • Please arrange to meet 10 minutes prior to the class start time by logging in to Zoom.

Is There an Exam?

Yes.  Don't stress though.  Of the more than 5000 CSM students Rick has taught, 99.4% of those students passed the exam on the first try.  Here's some info about it:

  • 50 multiple choice questions (one right answer)
  • Timed: 60 minutes
  • Not proctored
  • You have 90 days after class ends to start the exam
  • You can bookmark questions and return to them later
  • You may not save your place and return to the exam later
  • The questions are randomly selected
  • You may refer to notes and other references
  • You may not ask a Scrum Alliance certified individual for help on the exam while you take it
  • You have 2 free attempts at taking the exam. After that you have 2 more chances, but you will need to pay a $25 fee to Scrum Alliance each time.

This class will be conducted in Central USA Timezone (9:00 am -1:00 pm)
