Why Get ELEVATE your certification?

More and more, these days, people believe that the Scrum Master role in Scrum is the same as some other role they've seen before. So, what it ends up becoming is a duplicate of something that doesn't even resemble the true Scrum Master role.  Also, the Scrum Master is supposed to be a master of the framework called Scrum. But what we continually see is Scrum Masters who don't have any idea what Scrum really is, or what it is supposed to be used for.  People who value their craft learn their craft from trusted experts.  That's why we are here.

The Advanced Certified Scrum Master class elevates the formal PRACTICE of what a Scrum Master can, could and even SHOULD do with the team(s) they serve and the organization

It's all Lecture, right?

No way!!!  Most of this class is discussion-based or exercise-based.  Very little of the class is real lecture.  We get bored of lecturing faster than you get bored of being lectured.  That's a lose-lose situation.  We spice things up with bad jokes, deep discussion, and exercises that allow you to make mistakes and learn from them.

What's Covered?

  • Scrum Refresher
  • Agile, Lean, eXtreme Programming and Kanban in relation to Scrum from a practical and historical perspective (How's it fit together?)
  • Facilitation Basics and techniques, and what does that mean to the practice of a Scrum Master
  • Coaching Basics and techniques, and applying them to team and stakeholder interactions
  • Understanding the nature and process of meeting and facilitation of meetings from the perspective of a Scrum Master (regardless of its a Scrum event or not)
  • Products, Product Visions, Product Goals and how Goals emerge from assesses our customers interactions with our products
  • Backlogs and decomposing them to deliver customer value (increments) of product
  • Definition of Done deep dive - What does building the right product, the right way....mean to our customers/teams
  • Technical Debt and how this affects our Products Value
  • Dealing with impediments that keep a team from being a great team and building great products
  • Conflicts between individuals and groups and helping the team resolve conflicts productively
  • Change Management and service to an organization from the perspective of the Scrum Master
  • Scaling approach examples and overviews and real-life example(s)
  • Personal Scrum Master improvement and growth review and plan (course capstone) - Also useful for those who may pursue the CSP-SM, later.

Is there Prep Work?

Not really, but it would be great if everyone would come to class having read the Scrum Guide.

Since this is a virtual class, and we do lots of collaborative exercises, we use the industry leading visual collaboration tool - MIRO. To get familiarized with MIRO, a week before class starts, we will send you a few exercises in the virtual classroom environment.

You will also need a computer with a good microphone, webcam, and Zoom installed (using Zoom over a browser is just terrible).  We're going to want to see your beautiful face in class (even if you are just dressed in your favorite pajamas).  We suggest that, if possible, you use a computer that has multiple monitors.

Is There an Exam?

No. There is no formal exam. But there will be quizes embedded within the course to both assess the students understanding of the topics and spur conversation in the group exercises/simulations.
